HOW DO I GET TO THE TRAILS?
LOCATION: Big Creek Trails, Newport, Oregon
Big Creek Trails – base of trails
Parking is extremely limited so please see below for directions on where to park.
Where Do I Park? How Do I Get to the Trails?
All participants and spectators should park at Agate Beach Wayside. From there, walk or bike the short .09-mile Ocean to Bay Path to the gravel lot at NE Harney St. & NE Big Creek Rd. We encourage everyone to bike to the trailhead from this point—it’s a scenic 1.3-mile ride along a gravel road by the reservoir.
⚠️ Please note:
- The road will be open to local traffic on Saturday, so use caution.
- Parking is very limited near the trailhead. Volunteers will help direct vehicles.
- No trailers should attempt the gravel road—there isn’t enough space to turn around or park.
Sunday (Race Day):
Again, park at Agate Beach Wayside and walk or bike the .09-mile Ocean to Bay Path to the gravel lot at NE Harney St. & NE Big Creek Rd. From there, it’s a 1.3-mile ride up NE Big Creek Rd. to the trailhead.
🚧 On Sunday, the gravel road will be closed to through traffic and open only to event vehicles and racers on bikes. Racers must ride to the race course.
Amenities at the bottom of the course:
- Water station
- Porta-potties
What If My Family Wants to Watch me Race on Sunday?
Spectator access is a little limited unless you’re on a bike—but we’ve got you covered:
On Sunday only, we’ll have 2 spectator shuttles running from the gravel lot near Big Creek Park to the bottom of the race course.
- Shuttles begin at 7:45 AM
- They are for spectators only, not racers
- Bike racks will be available on shuttles
🚲 Family and friends are also welcome to bike the 1.3 miles along the closed gravel road to the course. Once there, they can find a safe viewing spot along the course or hang out near the finish line, which is close to the gravel road and a great place to cheer racers in!
Water and a porta-potty will also be available at the bottom of the course for spectators.
Let’s keep it fun and respectful—this trail system is in a neighborhood, so please park thoughtfully and be kind to the local community.
WHERE DO WE STAY?
Camping: Newport is home to two fantastic State Parks; South Beach State Park & Beverly Beach State Park.
There are also camping options at the Port of Newport.
Newport is also home to many fantastic hotels in all price ranges.
HOW DO I SUPPORT THE LOCAL TRAILS?:
You may donate directly to the Newport Trail Stewards (NEWTS), the local bike club that builds and maintains all of the trails in Newport.
CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
If You Need to Cancel We encourage all participants to opt for purchase protection during registration. This optional coverage is the best way to protect your investment in the event. If you do not purchase protection, we are unable to offer cash refunds for cancellations. Cancellations made at least 14 days before the event may transfer their registration to one of the remaining 2026 event dates. No transfers are allowed within 14 days of the event.
If We Need to Cancel In the unlikely event that we need to cancel due to fires, extreme weather, natural disasters, acts of God, or other force majeure circumstances outside of our control, the following policy applies. If cancellation occurs 14 or more days before the event, we will offer a transfer to another event date in the 2026 season. If cancellation occurs within 7 days of the event, or if it is the final event of the season, we are unable to offer refunds, credits, or transfers. This is due to costs that must be covered regardless of whether the event takes place, including permits, insurance, third-party vendor commitments, registration processing fees, and other administrative expenses.
